Retired Members Advisory Committee Update |

UNISON South West Retired Members Advisory Committee met on Tuesday 15 January at UNISON's Regional Office and Rosie MacGregor, our Retired Members Secretary, was elected as Vice-Chair of the committee and was elected to the National Retired Members Committee. Arrangements for the National Retired Members Conference to be held in Brighton in October were discussed. The Committee condemned the latest Government's proposals for state pensions, which although they will not affect existing pensioners will be to the detriment of many of those retiring in the future and will undoubtedly lead to pensioner poverty. The proposed £144 a week state pension payment is well below the poverty line of £170 a week and for those working in local government and contributing to superannuation schemes National Insurance contributions will increase, in other words, paying more or less. |
